10 Mile Lake to Prince George
Planned on an early start, but it was pissing rain when the alarm went at 5 am, so we went back to sleep for a while. It was still trying to rain as we packed everything away wet, and got mobile around 820am. It basically rained on and off all day. We started with a big drop into Cottonwood Creek, then a long climb out. I think we covered about 13km in our first hour of riding. Hills will do that to your average. We had planned on breakfast on the road, not wanting to sit in the rain and cook, and the firstrestaurant we came to was in Hixon, about 60km from the campground. It was more like lunch by that time. We went into the Fireplace Inn, ate, and sat there until we had dried off. I think we were hoping that the rain would stop, which it did, but it always started right back up again. Another climb out of the river valley, then we starting getting headwinds-Marilyn's least favourite thing. I think they were starting to bug her, but I was just psyched up about getting to my big brother Brett's place in PG.
We made it to Prince George about 430pm, then headed towards his place up Hwy 16. Pretty steep climb . A Chevy pickup pulled over in front of us, and there was my Big Bro asking if we wanted a ride-he was on his way home from work. No way was Marilyn or I riding that far to just take a ride for a couple of clicks.
I thought I knew the way from that point, but after a couple of km, things didn't look like I remembered. We pulled into a new gas station to check, and they not nly found the road we needed, we didn't even have to back on the highway to get there. Probably should have just stayed on the highway, as their route sent us over another hill and all round about to get there, but we did make it.
Dinner, shower, then bed. Then two days off in the city.
Mileage wise, this is was our longest day ever - 120km.
