Azouetta Lake to Chetwynd

Azouetta Lake to Chetwynd

MArilyn woke me up at about 4am to whisper that she heard something outside. When I started to get up to check what it might be, she told me to keep quiet and not move. Not sure why she woke me up then. Back to sleep for a while, and got up about 7:30. It was stil pretty cool out, but starting to warm up. By the time we were packed up, the bugs had returned. We hightailed it out of there.
Another gorgeous day of riding, mountains on both sides of th highway. There are basically no shoulders on the road, but there is so little traffic that it really doesn't matter. We made about 30km before we stopped for breakfast at the Silver Sands Lodge. We weren't actually sure if it was open or not, but when we pulled up, the guy mowing the lawn outside came in, took our order, and then went in the back to cook. At first he wasn't too talkative, but seemed to warm up to us a bit. Breakfast arrives, and the first thing Marilyn says is "How much bacon do you have?" I had gotten 5 strips, and she only got 3! Outrage.
Trevor, our waiter/cook/groundskeeper/owner/manager told us that he'd had a guy on a bike through recently. That guy had ridden from Prince George in 1 day (12 hours of riding)-well over 200km, and planned to be in Fort St. John in one more day. Way more miles than I'm prepared to do. But the worst part, according to Trevor-the guy was a VEGETARIAN! I think he was worried we might be too, until we ordered bacon, anyway. Anyway, the food was great, the store was nearly non-existant, and the conversation was pretty amusing.
We were just getting out of the parking lot to the highwaywhen 2 cyclists we had seen at Windy Point came flying by. They just nodded and waved, never slowed down at all. Maybe they don't speak English? Anyway, we never saw them again. We continued on to Hasler Flats, just before Chetwynd, adn stopped at my cousin Lisa's place. We had a nice visit with Lisa, and Theresa and Johnny, for a couple of hours. Lisa and Neal have a gorgeous house set down by the river, but we ended up pushing our bikes up the gravel driveway. From there it turned out to ba a little further to Chetwynd than we thought - about 28km. We found a motel, and then it was laundry, shower, and Chinese food.
